What goes around…by Tope Fasua

what goes around, comes around! when Lagos state ‘deported’ beggars back to Kano, we hailed them. we forgot, quite conveniently then, that Kano beggars ‘were also Nigerians’! then Abia State ‘sacked’ ‘indigenes’ of other Igbo States from its civil service, and it was treated, not as a national affair, but as a family affair. then Akwa Ibom State, showed Cross River ‘pepper’, by collecting its 76 oil wells and we said it was a judicial matter. then northern states started to complain, that they were impoverished because Nigeria’s territorial waters had been cede entirely to the states which border the Atlantic Ocean, and we told them they were lazy and they should shut up. Then Anambra discovered oil, and brought in money from its rich citizens (Anambrarians are the richest in Nigeria per capita), to develop it. They invited Mr President, who went there and promptly declared Anambra a ‘petroleum producing state. yay!! Now the real enjoyment wants to properly begin for ndi Anambara. Only for Kogi and other adjoining states to begin to lay claim to the crude kwa??!! and in fact, if you tap crude oil in your backward, some of the deposits in my own backyard comes out at your end. there are even ways of bending your drill-pipes etc, to tap from the backyard of the guy four houses away, who is not smart enough, or rich enough, to take advantage of what is in the ground..! Honestly the way we are going, states may start to wage wars against themselves. and if we break up Nigeria like many want us to, we would spend decades fighting boundary wars. we missed the plot, mentally, and except we navigate back to reason…
