As the yuletide season approaches, I want to advise all Imo youths to stay away from illicit drugs and focus on their future. I’m the Special Adviser on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring to the Governor of Imo State, and I’ve seen how substance abuse can harm individuals, families, and communities.

The yuletide season is a time to celebrate, but it’s also a time when many young people are tempted to try drugs or get involved in bad activities. I urge all Imo youths to resist this temptation and build a bright future.

A. The Dangers of Illicit Drugs
Illicit drugs are a serious threat to your health, well-being, and future. They can lead to addiction, health problems, financial ruin, and even death. They can also damage relationships and destroy families.

Why Youths Are Vulnerable

You may be tempted to try drugs due to:

A. Peer pressure
B. Curiosity
C. Financial difficulties
D. Lack of awareness about the risks
E. Easy access to drugs

But these reasons aren’t worth risking your future. There are better ways to address these challenges, and I’m here to support you.

The Consequences Are Dire

The consequences of illicit drug use are severe and long-lasting.

They include:

A. Health problems like HIV/AIDS and hepatitis
B. Mental health issues like depression and anxiety
C. Financial ruin and poverty
D. Social problems like isolation and community rejection
E. Legal consequences like imprisonment and fines

Stay Safe, Stay Smart

To avoid illicit drugs, I advise you to:

A. Learn about the risks
B. Engage in positive activities like sports and art
C. Build healthy relationships with family and friends
D. Focus on education and career goals
E. Report suspicious activities to authorities

Support Is Available.

If you’re struggling with addiction or tempted to try drugs, there are resources available:

A. Imo State Government’s youth support programs
B. Counseling and rehabilitation centers

A Message to Parents and Guardians

I urge parents and guardians to talk to their children about the risks of substance abuse and provide a supportive environment.
