The Alliance of Economic States (AES) has issued a firm statement declaring that the 11 Nigerian soldiers currently held in Burkina Faso will not be released until President Bola Ahmed Tinubu orders the immediate withdrawal of Nigerian troops from Benin Republic.

In a strongly worded message, the AES said:
“We will not release the detained Nigerian soldiers until Tinubu pulls every Nigerian soldier out of Benin Republic without delay. The continued deployment is a direct threat to regional peace.”

The group further accused Abuja of escalating tensions in the sub-region, insisting that diplomacy—not force—remains the only acceptable path.

According to the statement:
“Nigeria must act responsibly. The soldiers remain in safe custody, but they will not regain their freedom until the withdrawal order is executed. We are open to dialogue, but we will not tolerate intimidation.”
