Amaka introduced Ugochukwu to her family, and her mother greatly liked him. She loved him like her son. They met during their NYSC in 2009. After their NYSC year, Ugochukwu got a job for Amaka in Lagos; she’d have to leave for Lagos. Ugo later discovered that Amaka was marrying someone else, supported by her elder sister.

He was heartbroken. He would never forgive Amaka, even though he loved her dearly. He almost lost his mind. Amaka got married in August 2013. Ugo often wished it were a dream, but it wasn’t. Soon after she got married, she found a way to reach him. She wanted Ugo to be a vital part of her life. In her words, Ugo wasn’t a friend she wanted out of her life. Ugo wasn’t buying any of that.

On the 14th of December, 2014, Ugo got a message that Amaka had passed on. She was involved in an accident just a week before. Ugo had a strong urge to call her, but he refused. Amaka had died barely one year after marriage. Now, Ugo wished he could place that call, even if it were only to hear her voice one last time. Except for a miracle, Ugo lost that opportunity forever.

Beloved, we often fail to value our blessings until we lose them. Don’t forget that God has a say in every aspect of your life. It’s not always how you want it, so do your best and be your best. You can never tell.
Forgiveness isn’t only for the other person but for you. Unforgiveness eats both. It’s time to drop every load of unforgiveness we’ve held onto for the past eleven months. It can hinder your breakthrough. I’m sure that if Ugo were given the option to either forgive Amaka or have her die, he’d have chosen the former. Bury that hatred today.

Forgive me for the year 2025 for all the hurts and mistakes, known and unknown. I am just human. I did not know better. It’s good for both of us and for the new year ahead.
Merry Christmas.
