ENUGU, Nigeria— In a major boost to the ongoing urban renewal efforts in Enugu State, the United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide has formally commended Executive Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the strategic appointment of Chief Nwabueze Nnamani as the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation (ESHDC)
The appointment, which comes as part of a significant cabinet and board reshuffle announced in December 2025, is being hailed as a “masterstroke” in the Governor’s quest to transform Enugu into a modern, investment-driven smart city.
Landmark Appointment for Housing Reform
In a statement released on Monday, December 23, UNIEC Worldwide described the selection of Chief Nnamani as a testament to Governor Mbah’s commitment to meritocracy and sustainable development
Chief Nnamani, who also serves as the Chairman of the Enugu State chapter of UNIEC, is widely regarded for his:
- Administrative Depth: Years of proven leadership in various high-level capacities.
- Integrity: A track record of transparency and public service.
- Strategic Vision: An ability to align institutional goals with the Governor’s ambitious $30 billion GDP economic target.

Advancing the “New Enugu” Agenda
The Council expressed total confidence that under Nnamani’s leadership, the Housing Corporation will experience a surge in efficiency, particularly in the actualization of the New Enugu City project—a 10,000-hectare smart city initiative flagged off earlier this year.
Justice Alpha Ikpeama, Director-General of UNIEC Worldwide, noted:
”Governor Mbah has once again demonstrated a visionary and people-centered approach to governance. By placing a man of Chief Nnamani’s caliber at the helm of housing, the administration is ensuring that infrastructure development and institutional reforms remain on an upward trajectory.”
Highlights of UNIEC’s Commendation
The Council itemized several areas where the Governor’s leadership has shown exceptional progress:
- Infrastructural Renewal: The massive overhaul of 141 urban roads and the restoration of 24/7 pipe-borne water to the metropolis.
- Institutional Reform: The transition of key government agencies from civil service structures to production-driven entities.
- Inclusive Development: Pledging continued support for policies that promote social progress and inclusive growth across all 260 political wards.
Yuletide Goodwill
The statement concluded with heartfelt Christmas and New Year wishes to Governor Mbah and his family. The Council prayed for “continued wisdom, strength, and divine guidance” as the Governor enters the third year of his administration, marked by a record-breaking ₦971 billion 2025 budget heavily skewed toward capital expenditure.
