A female police inspector has filed a petition with the IGP regarding claims of assault, threats made by a senior officer.
W/Inspector Alonge Bridget, a female police officer from the Sabo Police Division in Yaba, Lagos State, has lodged a petition with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, concerning alleged physical assault, threats to her life, ongoing harassment, and professional misconduct by a senior officer at her station.
In her petition, Alonge accused the Divisional Traffic Officer, W/DSP Josephine Okeme, of repeatedly subjecting her to intimidation and violence while she was in uniform.
She reported that the first incident took place on February 12, 2025, shortly after her assignment to the traffic unit, when Okeme allegedly hit her in the chest, causing her to feel unwell for nearly two weeks, during which she sought medical attention and provided supporting medical documents.
Alonge further claimed that a second incident occurred on November 17, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., while she was on duty at the Divisional Crime Branch after being reassigned from the traffic unit by the Divisional Police Officer, W/CSP Comfort Alabi.
She alleged that Okeme burst into the office, slapped her without provocation, and threatened her with further violence.
In her attempt to escape, she injured her hand, which later became swollen.
Alonge also alleged that the harassment continued outside of work, claiming that Okeme followed her to bus stops after her shifts, verbally abused her in public, and discouraged bus drivers from providing her transportation.
Alonge stated that she initially reported the incidents to the then Area ‘C’ Commander, ACP Ayoola Oladunni, who summoned the accused officer.
However, no misconduct was found against Okeme, resulting in Alonge’s temporary retention at the Area Command, after which she was returned to Sabo Division at the DPO’s request, who reportedly praised her dedication to her work.
However, Alonge claimed that upon her return, the harassment resumed, leading her to file a formal complaint through the Lagos State Police Annex in Obalende, seeking the Inspector-General’s intervention.
She further alleged that on December 19, 2025, Okeme verbally attacked her in her office and subsequently reported her to the DPO for not greeting her, which led to an order for her to be questioned.
Attempts by this reporter to clarify the situation with the DPO were unsuccessful.
Despite an internal directive from the Officer-in-Charge of the Provost Unit recommending a peaceful resolution between both officers, Alonge claimed that no substantial action was taken.
She is now appealing directly to the Inspector-General of Police for protection, alleging that the senior officer has openly stated she would not face any consequences even if Alonge were to suffer serious harm.
