UNIEC Worldwide Congratulates Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mba on Sun Newspaper Man of the Year Award

The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide, in collaboration with the Great Igbo Achievers Award, warmly congratulates the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, on his recognition as Man of the Year by The Sun Newspaper.

This prestigious honour, conferred by one of Nigeria’s leading national dailies, is a strong affirmation of the visible transformation and governance reforms currently taking place in Enugu State under Governor Mba’s focused and visionary leadership.

In a statement issued by the Central Organising Council of UNIEC Worldwide and made available to the media, the Council described the award as well-deserved and timely, noting that the Governor’s administration has set new benchmarks in public service delivery within a remarkably short period.

According to the Council, Enugu State has recorded unprecedented progress in infrastructural development, strategic investments in education, improved healthcare delivery, revitalisation of the manufacturing sector, and deliberate policies aimed at repositioning tourism and attracting investment.

“Enugu today stands as evidence of purposeful, accountable, and people-centred governance,” the statement read. “From the quality and spread of road infrastructure to the modernisation of schools and healthcare facilities; from the revival of industries to the renewed confidence of investors, the impact of leadership is evident. The cleanliness, orderliness, and serenity now associated with the Coal City further underscore the Governor’s commitment to excellence in public administration.”

UNIEC Worldwide particularly commended the Governor’s people-oriented policies, which align with the Council’s long-standing advocacy for good governance, inclusive development, and the dignity of labour. The elders observed that reforms in urban renewal, security, and public administration have made Enugu one of the safest and most attractive states for business, residence, and tourism in Nigeria.

Explaining its decision to publicly identify with the honour through the Great Igbo Achievers Award platform, UNIEC Worldwide emphasised that leadership must be acknowledged when it delivers tangible and verifiable results.

“As a pan-Igbo body of elders and statesmen committed to peace-building, ethical leadership, and socio-economic advancement, UNIEC Worldwide believes that recognising excellence promotes accountability and inspires others in public office. Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mba has demonstrated capacity, character, and compassion, and we are proud to associate with his achievements,” the Council stated.

The Council also commended The Sun Newspaper for its consistent role in recognising excellence and highlighting positive governance across the country. According to UNIEC Worldwide, the selection of Governor Mba as Man of the Year reflects the sentiments of Enugu residents and the broader Nigerian public who have followed developments in the state.

UNIEC Worldwide urged the Governor to sustain the aggressive development agenda that has renewed hope and confidence among the people. The Council assured him of the continued moral and institutional support of Igbo elders and leaders at home and in the diaspora, stressing that a prosperous Enugu State contributes significantly to the progress of the South-East and Nigeria as a whole.

“As custodians of Igbo values and advocates of unity, development, and responsible leadership, UNIEC Worldwide stands with leaders who deliver results. We congratulate His Excellency and pray for continued wisdom, strength, and grace as he steers the affairs of Enugu State,” the statement concluded.
