The Hausa activism is not about forming an association, but a movement to regain agency that Fulani hegemony buried. It is obsessed with ethnic purity because most of the Northern elite, who are generally Fulani or their associates, dismiss the Hausa grievances. They maintained that the Hausa identity is not in existence, and therefore no individuals or groups can speak on its behalf. This naturally irked the Hausa activists and pushed them towards politics of purity, which is an existential threat to the Fulani hegemony.

The “Fulani” elite have mishandled the problem from the beginning and more confrontation would only worsen the situation. The Hausa are the greatest sanctuary of the Fulani in Nigeria, the consequences of having them as their adversaries is better not imagined./Bichiia Maisango
