In a shocking revelation, the indigenes of Umuchima autonomous community in Uburu, Ebonyi State have accused their own kinsman, Minister of Works and former governor Dave Umahi, of orchestrating the forcible eviction of residents and the alleged seizure of over 300 hectares of ancestral land.
The explosive petition, ominously titled “Death Tolls Resulting from Dehumanizing Actions of Senator Umahi Against His Own Kinsmen,” claims the ordeal began as far back as 2015 during Umahi’s tenure as governor and has continued under his federal appointment. The community insists that land initially earmarked for government projects was handed over to relatives of the minister, leaving residents destitute and furious.
Voices from Umuchima speak of homes flattened, farmlands destroyed, sacred sites desecrated, and a community gripped by fear. Widows, the elderly, and even the youth reportedly endured harassment, intimidation, and violent attacks, while night-time raids left properties vandalised and families traumatised.
Celestine Uzo, Publicity Secretary of the United Umuchima Community General Assembly, cried out to both state and federal authorities: “Let the public hear our cry; let the government come to our rescue.”
