This was disclosed when Amaechi met with the leaders of the party at the residence of the National Leader of the ADC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, in Benin, Edo State.

At the meeting, Amaechi appealed to leaders of the party in the South South to support his presidential ambition.

Security was beefed up around the Reservation Road where Oyegun’s house is located.

It was gathered that the increased security around Oyegun’s residence was due to Tuesday’s incident in which yet to be identified thugs destroyed vehicles of ADC chieftains parked in front of Oyegun’s house.

Odigie-Oyegun, who spoke at the meeting, said he was glad that the former Rivers State Governor took advantage of the meeting to formally inform them of his intention “to run for the President of our great Nation.’

According to him, “A unanimous decision has been taken to give him all the support that he needs to pursue his ambition. We are going to meet regularly. This group of leaders is going to meet regularly to interact. To learn from each other’s experience. The South South zone will become an example to be emulated by other zones. I think that reflects this decision. A lot of Speakers emphasise the fact that we hope the government will approach the run-up to the election and allow peace to reign, allow stability to reign and eschew violence in the run-up to the election. We in the ADC are committed.”
