SADDEST DAY IN 2026:
The present Chief of Defense Staff’s words, “Let us give Boko Haram a window to repent,” cut deep in my heart.

At first, I dismissed it as mere social media noise, then blamed it on opposition rhetoric. I defended the CDS, citing his service under General CG Musa, who was ferociously against any form of settlement with terrorists.
I was so convinced that he couldn’t say such a thing. But a lady in Yola, who had seen my vituperations on a platform, sent me the video. I watched, tears and bitterness flooding me.
Innocent Leah Sharibu’s face haunted me, General Uba’s sacrifice, having been betrayed, abducted, and killed publicly by Boko Haram. I also remembered hundreds of soldiers lost, others maimed, their families shattered, several communities razed and taken over by Boko Haram.
My short piece on Gen CG Musa last year came back to mind. He was a man loved and accepted by both Christians and Muslims, northerners and Southerners alike. His popularity engulfed the whole country. In the piece, I stated that it was a blatant mistake for him to have accepted that ministerial position as it would dim his fame and popularity.
I stated that he had compromised his position as he would be reporting to the NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, a policeman. I was heavily criticized and advised to take down the post which I did.
Now, as the military fights on and is on the verge of decimating the terrorists, the CDS speaks of giving terrorists an opportunity to repent. Gen CG Musa can’t stop it because the president wants to please the north for political gains.
My hope for this nation is gone. Politics trumps people, north over south, and we’re left with nothing. God, show us mercy. Nigeria is going down.
