A family of four has been reportedly killed in a fresh overnight attack by suspected armed herdsmen in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack, which residents said occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, targeted Imande Dem settlement along the Gbajimba Road in Uvir Council Ward, throwing the community into grief.

Sources within the community said the assailants stormed the area while residents were asleep and attacked a household, killing a woman identified as Mrs. Utsuwa Chicha and three of her sons.

A surviving child, described as a little boy, reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the assault and was rushed to a medical facility for emergency treatment. Community members said he was taken into surgery to remove bullets lodged in his body.

Residents further disclosed that the woman’s husband had earlier been killed in a previous attack, leaving behind a family now said to be made up largely of widows and surviving relatives.

The bodies of the deceased were later evacuated through a joint effort involving security personnel and local residents, while the injured child continues to receive treatment.

The latest incident adds to the growing list of deadly attacks in parts of Guma, where communities have repeatedly come under assault by suspected armed herders, worsening fears among residents.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
