Tragedy struck Zamfara State as heavily armed terrorists launched a deadly attack on Bunkasau village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, leaving at least 10 residents dead, with some reports suggesting the toll could be as high as 20.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers, who arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, operated for over an hour, carrying out coordinated shootings, looting, and destruction of property before fleeing the scene. Most of the victims were reportedly young men.

Residents said there was no immediate security response during the attack, with intervention forces arriving only after the attackers had withdrawn, raising concerns over response time and protection for vulnerable communities.

The incident highlights the persistent insecurity in Bukkuyum and surrounding areas such as Anka, where communities continue to face repeated attacks, abductions, and killings by armed groups.

Security experts warn that the ongoing pattern of violence underscores the urgent need for stronger military presence, intelligence gathering, and rapid response systems to curb the escalating crisis in the North-West.
