On March 11, 2026, he defected to the APC, citing his desire to secure a return ticket for the 2027 election and begin working against Peter Obi.
In May 2026, he resigned from the APC after failing to secure the party’s ticket for a second term. In the same month, he left the APC and moved to the NDC, hoping to secure the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives and later defect back to the APC.
