CWON Condemns Misuse of National Uniform as Aso-Ebi, Warns Against Unauthorized Use
The Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria (CWON) has strongly condemned the unauthorized use of its national uniform as Aso-Ebi for private social events, describing the practice as a desecration of a sacred symbol of the organization.
In a press release issued by the National President of CWON, the organization said its attention had been drawn to a viral video and related materials circulating on social media showing the CWON national uniform being used for a private social function.
The organization expressed deep concern over the development, stating that the uniform represents the identity, dignity, unity, and spiritual heritage of Catholic women across Nigeria and should not be subjected to misuse.
According to the statement, the CWON national uniform is not a ceremonial fabric intended for social celebrations, private parties, commercial ventures, or personal aggrandizement. Rather, it serves as the official identity of the organization and is meant to be worn during approved church programmes, liturgical celebrations, and other sanctioned activities.
The National Executive Council further described the use of the uniform as Aso-Ebi or for any purpose that trivializes, commercializes, misrepresents, or ridicules the organization as highly unacceptable and contrary to the values upon which CWON was founded.
The council noted that the incident constitutes an affront to millions of Catholic women who have worked tirelessly over the years to preserve the integrity, respect, and reputation of the organization within both the Church and society.
Consequently, the CWON National President called on all Station, Parish, Deanery, Diocesan, and Provincial Presidents across the country to remain vigilant and take immediate steps to protect the sanctity of the organization’s national uniform. The leadership also warned against unauthorized reproduction, commercialization, and improper use of the uniform in any form.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to preserving its heritage and maintaining the dignity associated with its official symbols.
