The real war for Burkina Faso’s total independence from France has just begun following the unprecedented decision by Burkina Faso to cut diplomatic relations with France.
Now, France will step up its hostilities against Burkina Faso, especially the plots to assassinate Captain Traoré. The plots will intensify, Africans will be used, as usual, to help make it happen.
There are already comments and posts from people in Burkina Faso’s neighboring countries strongly siding with France against Burkina Faso and its leader after the decision to cut the relations.
France will be stepping up its operations against Captain Traoré, with Africans being used as the spearheads. The people of Burkina Faso, are ready for this final battle for their total independence from France. They are on a road of no return. Either they achieve total sovereignty from France, or they die fighting for it. There is no going back.
That is the true meaning of Burkina Faso’s motto, “The Fatherland or death, We Shall Overcome,” which Thomas Sankara included in the country’s national anthem and which also serves as its national motto.
Algeria’s war of independence against France cost the lives of more than one million Algerians (reportedly 1.5 million). In Burkina Faso, the war for independence (through the fight against terrorism) has been costing Burkinabes lives already for the past 10 years. Now, with the final battle seemingly imminent following the decision to cut diplomatic relations with France, they are prepared for even greater sacrifices that could exceed those made by Algeria in order to achieve our total independence. A heavy price must sometimes be paid so that future generations can live in freedom. One million lives lost for freedom is nothing compared to the value of freedom itself. The Algerians understood that early on. That’s why today they are independent and have full control over their resources.
In South Saharan Africa, we must be ready and have the courage to sacrifice a great deal as the price of breaking free from the colonizers and becoming like other sovereign nations. We cannot keep talking and complaining forever. The colonizers will not hand us our full sovereignty simply because we continue to complain. Only strong actions from our side, will push them. And we should always be ready to pay the price for that push. However that price is, it will lead to freedom sooner or later. And eventually, the whole world will respect us for defending our freedom regardless of any consequences.
