“He Should Rot in Peace, Not Massively Recruiting Our Sons for War” – Uwazuruike Alleges Kanu Is Directing Deadly Violence In Southeast From Sokoto Prison
Biafran separatist leader Ralph Uwazuruike has accused his fellow agitator and imprisoned IPOB supreme leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, of orchestrating the deaths of Igbo youths by actively recruiting them for violence from his prison cell in Sokoto. In a YouTube video released on Saturday, the founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) expressed deep frustration over the situation, insisting that it is “unacceptable” that a man already serving a life sentence for terrorism is being allowed to recruit more young men into deadly operations. “Every day, our young men are killed because they are being deceived into engaging in violence by Nnamdi Kanu, who is recruiting them from prison,” Uwazuruike lamented. He urged the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other Igbo leaders to immediately mobilize to Sokoto and issue a “stern warning” to Kanu to desist.
The accusations come amid a flurry of videos on social media showing masked, heavily armed militants in forest hideouts chanting solidarity anthems for Kanu and threatening a new wave of violence in the South-East if their leader is not released. The deepening rift between the two separatist leaders has escalated after Kanu, from prison, dissolved the IPOB Directorate of State (DOS) and replaced its leadership. Uwazuruike drew a sharp contrast with the federal government’s approach in the north, questioning why “repentant terrorists and bandits” are rehabilitated while no such amnesty is offered to IPOB members. “Why can’t the people who have been in violence renounce it and come out and seek amnesty, so that the federal government can rehabilitate them?” he asked.
