No, this didn’t start as social media gossip.

The allegations were first reported by The Will Nigeria and later amplified and debated on ARISE News TV .

According to the reports, APC governors allegedly agreed to make monthly deductions from their states’ FAAC allocations to build a war chest for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign. The reports further claim that the funds, said to have accumulated to over ₦800 billion, were allegedly coordinated by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma.

Meanwhile, the accused have denied the allegations.

But here’s the question that should trouble every Nigerian:

What if they are true?

Think about what ₦800 billion represents.

That is not just a figure.

It is thousands of classrooms that were never built.

It is hospitals that remain without drugs.

It is roads that continue to claim lives every day.

It is communities without clean water.

It is millions of young Nigerians without jobs.

It is pensioners waiting endlessly for what they earned.

It is farmers abandoned to insecurity.

It is a country constantly told there is “no money.”

If public funds meant for development were secretly diverted for partisan politics, then this would rank among the gravest betrayals of public trust in our democratic history.

This is why dismissing the story with a wave of the hand is not enough.

The accused deserve the presumption that the allegations are unproven.

But Nigerians equally deserve the truth.

A simple denial cannot substitute for a transparent, independent investigation.

If the reports are false, let the evidence clear every name.

If they are true, then those responsible must be held accountable, regardless of status or political party.

The real tragedy is that we’ve become so accustomed to hearing about billions and trillions that they no longer shock us.

Our outrage has grown weaker than the corruption itself.

That should frighten us all.

This is bigger than Hope Uzodimma.

It is bigger than the APC.

It is bigger than President Tinubu.

It is about whether public money belongs to the Nigerian people or to those who temporarily occupy public office.

Nigeria deserves answers.

And silence should never be one of them./Solomon Dalung
