In a somber speech this morning, Babangida reflected on the passing of many respected elders in the North. He mentioned the loss of influential religious figures, politicians, and other key community members. “I see many we hold dear leaving us. Even I feel my strength fading. I can’t help but wonder if I’ll see another year. All we can do is hope to depart with faith intact,” he expressed.
He reminisced about his time in power and the efforts made to advance the North, specifically mentioning the move of Nigeria’s capital from Lagos to Abuja. “Had I not pushed for that relocation, the North might not have the recognition it has today. We did our part. Now, as our time wanes, I urge our leaders to come together. We have no other region like this one,” he concluded.
