The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully airlifted 198 military personnel to The Gambia as part of Nigeria’s contribution to the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), reaffirming the country’s commitment to regional peace and stability.
The troops, drawn from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, departed aboard a NAF C-130 Hercules aircraft for Banjul, where they will serve as part of the multinational peace support mission under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The deployment is part of the routine rotation of Nigerian peacekeepers already serving in The Gambia. Before departure, the troops were charged to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights while carrying out their mandate.
ECOMIG has remained in The Gambia since 2017, helping to preserve peace and support democratic governance following the political crisis that led to the departure of former President Yahya Jammeh. Nigeria has continued to play a leading role in the regional mission by providing troops, logistics, and airlift capabilities.
