The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE), the federal agency established to address out-of-school children crisis, has earmarked about ₦9.1 billion in its 2026 budget for township roads, ambulances and dental equipment in Ogun, Katsina and Ekiti states, a WikkiTimes review of the 2026 budget has revealed.
The proposed expenditures are at odd with the Commission’s statutory mandate of identifying, enrolling and reintegrating millions of out-of-school children into formal and non-formal education.
According to the Commission’s website, Nigeria has about 10.7 million out-of-school children, with the highest concentration in the northern region.
“Northern states show higher rates of out-of-school children, with girls being particularly affected by cultural and economic barriers,” the Commission states on its website
