Maybe later today, or sometime this week, we will write a farewell address to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Not because we hate him. Not because we have forgotten the sacrifices he made. But because we believe every leader has a season, and no captain is meant to remain at the helm forever.
In our view, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has reached the point where he should take a bow and allow others to carry the struggle forward. History is filled with great men who knew when to step aside so that the mission they loved could outlive them. This though, will not take away the positions he previously held in IPOB.
The Biafra cause, if it is to endure, must never depend on one individual. A movement that cannot survive beyond its founder is too fragile to achieve its purpose.
A wise captain does not wait until the ship is sinking before handing over the wheel. He prepares new sailors, trusts them with the voyage, and watches them carry the vision to the next horizon.
No matter how loved, respected, or influential a leader may be, there comes a time when preserving the mission becomes more important than preserving the personality.
We believe that time has come.
This is not a rejection of the past. It is a recognition that every generation has its own responsibility. New storms require new strategies. New challenges require new hands. The ship must continue its journey, even when the captain chooses to rest.
The Biafra struggle is bigger than any one man. It began before Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and it will continue long after every one of us is gone.
Every captain deserves gratitude for the voyage he has sailed. But every captain must also know when to pass the compass to the next generation.
The journey must continue.
