Igboho Kingdom Fires Back at Miyetti Allah, Declares Unwavering Support for Sunday Igboho
Igboho, Oyo State — The leadership of Igboho Kingdom has dismissed a petition reportedly filed by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), insisting that Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, acted in defence of the community during a period of worsening insecurity.
In a joint statement, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Joel Olalere Olawuwo, Alepata of Igboho and Chairman of the Oorelope Traditional Council, alongside Alhaji Hammed Adegoke, President-General of Ifelodun Omo Igboho, described the allegations against Sunday Igboho as baseless and misleading.
The reaction follows reports that MACBAN petitioned the Oyo State Government and security agencies, accusing Sunday Igboho of threatening members of the Fulani community and calling for his arrest.
The traditional rulers and community leaders, however, maintained that Sunday Igboho’s actions were never directed at any ethnic or religious group but were a response to years of kidnapping, attacks on farmers, and other criminal activities that allegedly plagued Igboho and neighbouring communities in the Òkè-Ògùn axis.
According to the statement, law-abiding citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, should not be associated with criminal elements, urging authorities to remain focused on tackling insecurity rather than what they described as false accusations.
The community further reaffirmed its confidence in Sunday Igboho, describing him as a respected son of the land whose interventions helped restore hope and confidence among residents living under fear.
The leaders also applauded the Federal Government and security agencies, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Armed Forces, Amotekun Corps, and other security institutions for strengthening security efforts in the region.
They stressed that cooperation between local communities and security agencies remains vital in the fight against crime and called for continued collaboration to ensure lasting peace.
Reaffirming Igboho Kingdom’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, the statement emphasized that every law-abiding resident, irrespective of ethnic or religious background, is welcome to live, farm, and conduct legitimate business without fear.
The statement was jointly signed by His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Joel Olalere Olawuwo, Alepata of Igboho and Chairman of the Oorelope Traditional Council, and Alhaji Hammed Adegoke, President-General of Ifelodun Omo Igboho, on behalf of the people of Igboho Kingdom.
