A 47-year-old woman, Mrs. Onyinyechi Esther Charles, has been arrested and arraigned by the Anambra State Government over allegations of carrying out surgical procedures without the required medical and surgical qualifications.
Mrs Onyinye Esther Charles is from Abia State but she is married to a man from Nteje And resides in Umueri Anambra State. According to her, She has been doing these illegal surgeries for the past five years in Umueri.
She revealed that she attended a school of nursing and midwery in Freetown, Sierra Leone, but she has no illegal document or permit apart from the certificate she received from Sierra Leone during interrogation.
From information gathered through her testimony, She mentioned that she has performed just 5 surgeries and no one has died in her care, she said she has performed 3 fibroids operations and 2 tumor ulcer operations and they are all survived but the interviewer called her attention to a man named Chinedu who allegedly died after she operated on him. she denied it stating that the Chinedu didn’t die in hér care. She said he died of spiritual attacks after a month of doing the operation.
Anambra State government has confirmed that she will be arraigned over allegations of carrying out surgical procedures without the required medical and surgical qualifications.
