SOLDIERS NEARLY OPENED FIRE ON MEN OF THE NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE IMO STATE COMMAND AT ORJI FLYOVER.
A few minutes ago at about 7:30pm while strolling down to Orji flyover to get a bus that will take me home after an evening program in church,
I witnessed some men of the Nigerian police force with an 18 seater white bus picking young boys along the road, in front of Crunchies fast food Orji..
From the scene, some of the boys where standing and waiting for commercial buses to convey them to their various destinations, while some were just strolling down like me because of the heavy traffic caused by an army check point at Orji flyover.
I was shocked to see men of the imo state police command alight from the white bus and asked some of the boys to enter the bus for no reason.
These boys were not armed or posing any threat at all, they looked very innocent and minding their business.
Yet they were beating and forced to enter the bus which they did because the police officers were armed and was threatening them.
Luckily they did not pick the young ladies amongst them and drove off while nobody raised any alarm or made any move to know what happened.
From how everything played out, it looked like a kidnapping scene, just that there were no gunshots.
As they drove off, the young ladies chased after them and moved ahead of them to alert the soldiers at Orji flyover.
Meanwhile, we were almost close to Orji flyover while still trekking and hoping to get a bus.
Due to the manner and tone of the report from the young ladies to the soldiers who mounted a checking point at ORJI flyover, they soldiers assumed they suspects were kidnappers, they raised alarm of kidnappers immediately and blocked the road while making efforts to locate the bus and take action..
The bus filled with young boys and police men gradually drove down to the check point and the soldiers cocked their guns, ready to open fire on them while shouting “kidnappers” “come down or I shoot”
The police men had no other option than to come down from the bus as they were also shouting “Na Police, Na police”
Luckily, the soldiers looked at them very well and brought down their guns..
This incident created a serious panic around that fuel station at orji flyover as everybody scampered for safety and the scene became very rowdy.
Some of the boys in the bus came down, ran straight to the soldiers and asked them to protect them because they don’t know those men and they didn’t commit crime..
After which some of them were released by the help of the soldiers and negotiations with the police men..
This is just the least of the atrocities these men commit in this city every weekend..
They randomly pick boys on the road, force them into their vehicles and take them to unknown locations..
The imo state police commands needs to investigate this matter, identify these men and punish them accordingly..
Orji youths needs to have a serious meeting with the commissioner of police and their LGA chairman, to know how to protect the people of orji and the students that live around that area..
I was very shocked to my marrows with what i witnessed this night.
This is very disheartening and heartbreaking to know that such crime is committed by those that are supposed to protect lives and properties.
We’re no longer safe at all!!
Youths are now their targets not bandits!!
Imo state police command should do better!!
