Just woke to learn that the House of Representatives in Nigeria has rescinded its Bill on State Police to adopt the Bill on State Police penned by the Bola Tinubu regime.
Don’t get it twisted! I have been a strong advocate of a Decentralized Policing System in Nigeria over the last 10 years. But, if Bola Tinubu is forcing his own version of State Policing Bill into the throats of the rubber-stamped Senate led by Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives led by Tajudeen Abbas, then, this whole State Policing hoopla before the 2027 presidential election has become suspect.
We warn again: Tinubu, the Nigerian Senate, and House of Representatives should tranquilo on this rush to pass the State Police Bill into an Act of the National Assembly before we could all say Jack Robinson. What is the rush for?
