ON THE ISSUE OF MARY HABILA (GOD REST HER SOUL)
There are two issues that are being discussed – one is that people are rightly demanding for justice for this lady who cannot fight for herself (and that is where I belong). Two, there are people who conveniently ignore the fact that this lady was found dead under questionable circumstances in the house of a serving minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr Dave Umahi. They are, instead, concerned about whether it was morally ok that she was there or not, whether she was a nurse who was a therapist or not. Whatever she was, whatever the morality of her going there, in fact even if she was a certified prostitute and not a nurse at all, that is completely unnecessary at this point. What we should be concerned about is getting to the bottom of this matter. The rest of the conversation can be had after that for those interested. Even people who are professional at travels for fun are conveniently questioning the dead because they cannot speak. Well…well…well!
So, is the lady not from a constituency? Don’t we have women advocates in her constituency? Does she not have people representing her constituency at the State and Federal levels? We need answers to this unacceptable state of affair. If this one goes away without satisfactory answers, someone will be next, and then another, and another.
We cannot let those whose responsibility it is to get to the bottom of this to pretend they cannot hear us.
