IMO POLICE COMMAND WARNS COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLE OPERATORS TO STRICTLY COMPLY WITH EXTANT REGULATIONS AS ENFORCEMENT CONTINUES
The Imo State Police Command has intensified enforcement of the regulations governing the operation of commercial motorcycles (Okada) in the State, following the directive issued by the Imo State Ministry of Transport on 12th August, 2026.
The directive requires all commercial motorcycle operators to undergo the prescribed data capture, wear officially approved reflective jackets, and operate only in areas where commercial motorcycle operations are legally permitted. The Command therefore urges all operators to fully comply with these requirements and regularise their operations without delay.
The Command further reiterates the existing restriction on the operation of commercial motorcycles within Owerri Municipal as prescribed by the Imo State Government. All operators are therefore warned to desist from operating commercial motorcycles within the restricted area and to operate only in locations where such activities are lawfully permitted.
The enforcement exercise will be conducted in collaboration with the relevant government agencies and in accordance with extant laws and regulations. Police personnel deployed for the exercise have been directed to conduct themselves professionally, respect the rights and dignity of members of the public, and ensure that all enforcement actions are carried out strictly within the law.
Any arrest, detention, seizure, or impoundment arising from the enforcement exercise shall be undertaken only where there is a lawful basis and in accordance with due process. Members of the public are encouraged to report any cases of harassment, extortion, intimidation, or other unlawful conduct by enforcement personnel through the appropriate channels.
The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, psc(+), mnips, assures residents and visitors that the Command remains committed to the fair, professional and non-discriminatory enforcement of the law, while working with relevant government authorities to promote security, road safety and an orderly transportation system across Imo State.
