Open Letter to Pope Leo XIV, Nigeria’s Catholic Bishops and Priests: Why the Silence While Your Flock Is Butchered?.. Nigeria’s tragedy worsens

Open Letter to Pope Leo XIV, Nigeria’s Catholic Bishops and Priests: Why the Silence While Your Flock Is Butchered?
@Pontifex

@KukahCentre Catholics have never been pacifists when the faith or the faithful were under the sword. Popes called the Crusades. Catholic kings drove the Reconquista for centuries until Granada fell in 1492. Catholic armies fought Protestants across Europe in the wars of religion. The Papal States kept armies. Just War theory exists because the Church accepted that sometimes the only moral response to slaughter is force. Your own history is soaked in the blood of men who refused to let their people be wiped out.

So explain this.

In Nigeria today, Fulani Islamic militants and their allies raid Christian villages in the Middle Belt and beyond. They kill farmers in their beds, burn churches, seize land, and leave survivors to bury the dead while official security forces arrive late or not at all. Women and children are among the bodies. Pastors are targeted. Communities empty. People turn to vigilantes because the state has failed them. This is not “farmer-herder clashes. This is systematic terror against Christian populations, and everyone on the ground knows it.

Where is the roar from the pulpits? Where is the clear, repeated, public demand that the Nigerian government stop treating these killers with kid gloves? Where is the call for the faithful to defend themselves and their land the way Catholics have done for a thousand years when survival was at stake? Instead we get careful statements, interfaith photo-ops, and the same soft language that has accompanied every fresh massacre.

@Pontifex you speak about violence in other places with urgency. Nigerian Christians are being slaughtered on a scale that would have drawn crusading bulls in another century. Why the measured tone here?

Nigerian bishops and priests: you live among the body bags. You bury the victims. You know the pattern. Some of you have spoken, but the collective voice remains far too quiet, far too diplomatic, far too afraid of being called divisive. Your people are not dying from climate change or vague insecurity. They are dying from armed men who know there will be no real cost.

History does not remember the bishops who issued balanced communiqués while villages burned. It remembers those who refused to let the flock be erased. Catholics once fought. They once took the field. They once made the price of attacking Christians too high. That instinct is not optional when the alternative is watching your people wiped out.

The silence is deafening. The blood is real. Speak like the heirs of a Church that once knew how to defend its own or admit that the old courage is gone. x.com/VOLTOXf/status…
