The United Nations has received records and arguments concerning allegations of historical drug trafficking linked to Tinubu, as world leaders prepare to gather in New York for the 2026 United Nations General Assembly.
The development was disclosed by Von Batten Montague York, L.C., which said it had taken the information to senior leadership at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York ahead of the high-level gathering. In a statement posted on X by its account, @batten_von, the firm said the engagement with U.S. officials began on September 8 and followed a recent meeting between Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

According to the firm, it presented what it described as an ongoing dispute involving allegations attributed to the FBI and DEA concerning Tinubu’s alleged links to a criminal organisation accused of smuggling heroin from Nigeria into the United States during the 1980s and 1990s.
The firm said its objective was to ensure that relevant U.S. decision-makers had access to the information and arguments before making decisions it considered consequential to the matter.
Von Batten Montague York had previously vowed to embarrass Tinubu at the United Nations General Assembly, making its reported engagement with senior officials at the U.S. Mission a significant development ahead of the meeting of world leaders.
The firm also criticised what it described as efforts by the Nigerian government to secure a meeting or photograph between Tinubu and U.S. President Donald Trump during the UN General Assembly, saying it viewed such an encounter as a challenge to the integrity of the United States and its president.
The United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week is scheduled for September 18 to 28, 2026, with the General Debate set to begin on September 22. World leaders and senior government officials are expected to converge on New York for the diplomatic engagements.
Von Batten Montague York said it would continue engaging U.S. officials and pressing its arguments as diplomatic discussions involving Nigeria and the United States continue around the UN General Assembly.
