Success dear, I never knew you before the rage of the flood that took you away, but your sudden departure and the trailing tale of how it happened has endeared you to many including me. I had wanted all along to write to bid you farewell but the tears swell down my cheeks each time I try to do. Moreso, when I got to know that your parents are dear disciples of Christ. What a time for my brother and sister (I mean your parents)

You mocked death and hell in their joint rage to steal, destroy and kill when you gallantly rose to save your school mates who you had afore time-shared good times with both inside your school bus and classrooms. Your selflessness in that dire condition and circumstance speaks loudly to the selfishness of most of our today’s political leaders who care not a hoot at the suffering people of Nigeria.

You broke the bus window to free others from dying. Raised from a Christian home your act of charity sparks hope that our labours to raise another generation of Nigerians who will truly care for one another despite ethnic, religious or tribal differences is not in vain. Your smile of hope and the audacity of your act signal the death of malice and bitterness in a country that had stayed long time in the wilderness. Nigeria’s Canaan has taken long in coming. 40 years for Israel. 66 years here, still in the wilderness.

Despite the sting mostly on your parents and siblings with this separation, the lingering sweetness in your last act before your glorious summons will stay with us for a long time.

In an African environment where it is too strange for elders to bid farewell to the young in this way, it comes too hard to say goodbye to you, but your bold act in the flood emboldens us to still do this. We really thought you came back when video of a boy rescued trended. Thank God for the boy that was rescued, but our joy would have known no bound if you were also found alive.

Strong like a lion in your lambly look, yet swift like an eagle you came in that darkly school day morning when you died to keep others alive. A saviour of a kind you became. Thank you for saving lives with yours. What a sacrifice.

Adieu Sweetheart. You are a soldier for Jesus indeed.

My sincere condolences to Daddy and Mommy Success.

It is well./Harold Christian Ikwueze on FB
