According to information available to Igbo History, the latest confrontation between youths from Aguleri and Ụmuoba Anam, around the Ama-Awusa area of Otuocha, appears to have been triggered by the installation of a signpost and a CCTV camera.
Reports reaching us indicate that on October 1, 2026, some Aguleri youths went to an area around Otuocha Market to erect a signpost and install a CCTV camera. They were reportedly resisted by youths from Anam, and what began as a disagreement soon escalated into a violent confrontation.
The situation reportedly moved from the throwing of stones to gunfire, destruction of property and the burning of buildings.
Sadly, lives have reportedly been lost. People have been injured, families have been forced to flee their homes, and others are said to be receiving treatment in different health centres and hospitals.
A piece of land has once again become a reason for people to fight, bleed and lose their lives.
Whatever the history of the land dispute may be, there is an urgent need for the matter to be resolved through dialogue and lawful means before more lives and property are lost./Igbo History on FB
