The All Progressives Congress in the South East on Friday formally adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its consensus candidate for the 2027 presidential election, with Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, declaring that the President has entrusted his political future to the zone.

Speaking at the APC South East Stakeholders Meeting held at the Presidential Hotel, Enugu, Governor Uzodimma said the responsibility placed on the region by the President was collective and historic.
“A serious responsibility for one of us is a serious responsibility for all of us,” the governor said. “The truth of the matter is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, against all odds, has entrusted his political fate in 2027 on the hands of APC South East.”

Uzodimma, who is the leader of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for 2027, said the decision of the South East to rally behind President Tinubu went beyond politics and spoke to the long term future of the region within the Nigerian federation.

“If we support President Tinubu to complete his eight years in office, we are building a bridge that our children will cross,” he said. “We are building a bridge we will use to cross when it is our turn to produce a president from the South East.”

The governor cited recent economic indicators as reasons for supporting a second term for the President, pointing to improved stability in the foreign exchange market, adjustments in fuel pump prices, and a steady reduction in food prices. He said continuity was necessary to consolidate the gains of the ongoing economic reforms.

He urged party leaders across the zone to mobilise support from the grassroots, stressing that the South East must demonstrate its renewed political relevance through tangible electoral outcomes.
“Let us galvanise our people to show that APC has a new home in the South East,” Uzodimma said. “We will deliver a vote that matches our new political strength. By doing so, we will secure our political future and ensure our place at the centre of Nigeria’s politics.”
The meeting reached its peak when the governor called for a motion to adopt President Tinubu as the consensus presidential candidate of the South East. The motion was moved by a former President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, and seconded by another former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani. When the motion was put to a voice vote, all attendees affirmed the adoption unanimously.

The stakeholders meeting drew a wide spectrum of party leaders from across the zone. In attendance were APC governors from the South East, including Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State. Also present were the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, serving senators, members of the House of Representatives, state legislators, and party leaders from the region.

The South East APC leadership was led by Chief Emma Eneukwu, alongside members of state working committees and other key stakeholders.
The adoption of President Tinubu as the zone’s consensus candidate marks a significant political statement by the South East APC, reinforcing Governor Uzodimma’s declaration that the party has found a firm footing and a new home in the region.
