YORUBA MUSLIM ISSUE WARNING TO CHRISTIAN BIG0TS, OBAS OVER DENIAL OF SHARI’A RIGHTS
Yoruba Muslims under the aegis of Yoruba Muslims for Freedom (YMF) has issued a stern warning to traditional rulers and Christian bigots to steer clear of interfering in Islamic affairs across Yoruband. Speaking with newsmen Monday evening, the group spokesman, Mr Lateef Akinwale says Christians and idol worshippers have nothing to do with Shari’a and hence must immediately stop spreading falsehood about Sharia and allow muslims to live their free life as enshrined in the constitution.
“As I told you, Muslims have been marginalised in Yorubaland for too longer. We can no longer remain silent in the face of this shameless tyranny, oppression, marginalisation and artificial impoverishment”
He said despite the fact that 70% of Yorubas are Muslims, a tiny minority Christian bigots have denied Muslims their right and happiness”
“This cannot be allowed to continue. The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guaranteed us the right to our religion. Shari’a Panel to adjugate on civil matters is our fundamental human right. No governor talkless of a powerless traditional ruler can stop us from enjoying our rights”
“Yoruba traditional rulers have no right or jurisdiction to stop Shari’a panels, it is with this that we issue a stern warning to all Obas across Yorubaland to desist from interfering in Islamic Matters. We owe no allegiance to any Oba”
As Muslims we cannot submit to idol worshippers, so Obas should respect themselves and continue ruling their pagan subjects, but for us as Muslims, our Imams are our leaders”
“Yoruba Obas derived their legitimacy from inexistent gods and spirits. As educated , civilised people we are sure those gods and spirits do not exist”
“As Muslims who are guided by Islamic Civilization, we have nothing in common with idol worshippers, cultists and ritualists who parade themselves as “Leaders of Yoruba” . They are not our leaders. It is ridiculous for a backward 7th century man engaging in human sacrifice and other fetish and occult to claim being a leader of Muslims”
“Obas should stop parading themselves as leaders of Yoruba. Soon, we will appoint imams in each Yoruba town. This imam will serve as the leader of Muslims within his domain. Idol worshippers should submit to their idol worshipping kings, while for us , we will submit to our Imam. To you is your religion and bigotry, and to us our religion and our freedom.
Asked if the government will recognise the Imams – “No, we don’t need recognition from anybody, we don’t claim that the Imam position is constitutional. It has nothing to do with the government. It is our personal initiative to free ourselves from the tyranny of idol worshippers.
Ask whether the agitation for Shari’a panels will continue – “Of course there is no going back, Shari’a panels do not even require government approval but that’s not what we are asking. What we are asking is that these Shari’a panels should be recognised and taken by the government in accordance with the right guaranteed to us by the constitution. The government should build the courts and pay the judges,etc.
There is no going back, we won’t allow ourselves to be distracted by intolerant bigots and enemies of peace. We will join the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, Muslim Ummah of Southwest Nigeria (MUSWEN), Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), NASSFAT, Muslims Right Concern (MURIC) OSUN STATE to launch the INDEPENDENT SHARI’AH COURT
