Anambra Residents Snub Soludo, Continue Monday Sit-at-Home Protests for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release, Insist Only Kanu’s Freedom will End Civil Disobedience.

Today, Monday, 9th February 2026, markets across Onitsha were met with silence. Although market gates were opened, traders and residents remained indoors in a quiet but powerful protest demanding the freedom of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

This development followed a statement made yesterday, 8th February, by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, officially cancelling the Monday sit-at-home. However, he clearly maintained that no one should be forced to come out.

Despite this cancellation, the people chose to stay indoors completely. Their action was not enforced—it was voluntary. The message was unmistakable: only the freedom of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu can bring the people out.

Recall that two weeks ago, on a Tuesday, the Anambra State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Charles Soludo, ordered the closure of markets for one week in an attempt to compel economic activities. In response, traders and residents protested peacefully and were captured in videos singing “Holy, Holy, Nnamdi Kanu is another saviour.”

Today, that same spirit of defiance has been sustained.

What the people have expressed—clearly and unmistakably—is something many leaders in Igbo land have avoided saying openly. The silence of the streets speaks louder than words.

It is time to put an end to this situation. It is time to gather our courage—wherever we left it—pick it up, wear it, and collectively demand that the Nigerian government release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
