Fresh allegations of large-scale vote-buying have emerged from Gwagwalada Area Council, following claims that ₦20 million was distributed to each ward early Saturday morning to influence voters during ongoing polls.
Multiple sources at various polling units told Chronicles Reporters that the funds were allegedly deployed to induce voters in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The alleged cash distribution reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day, shortly before voting commenced.
According to eyewitness accounts, party agents were seen coordinating movements across wards, with allegations that cash inducements were offered to sway voter choices. Residents described the development as a “brazen assault on democracy,” calling for immediate intervention by anti-graft authorities.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have been urged to urgently investigate the allegations and deploy monitoring teams to affected polling units.
Several community members further alleged that the Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abu Giri, is linked to the purported vote-buying operation. As of the time of filing this report, no official response has been issued by the chairman or the APC regarding the claims.
Civil society groups and election observers in the area warned that failure to address the allegations could undermine the credibility of the election and fuel post-election tensions.
Chronicles Reporters will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
