Tinubu Calls Police Council Meeting Over Disu’s Appointment Today
President Bola Tinubu is set to convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council on Monday to formally consider the appointment of Tunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police. According to Ireporter Online, two senior officials in the Presidency and the police hierarchy confirmed the development, noting that the meeting will take place at the usual Federal Executive Council time of 12:00 or 1:00 pm.
The convening of the council is in compliance with the Police Act 2020, which requires the Police Council to consider such appointments before the President forwards the nominee’s name to the Senate for confirmation. The Presidency had earlier indicated that the council would meet following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun last week.

Disu, 59, has been serving in an acting capacity since his appointment last Wednesday. At his decoration ceremony, President Tinubu charged him to reposition the Nigeria Police Force, emphasizing leadership with integrity, prioritizing officer welfare, and restoring public confidence in the force.

A native of Lagos Island, Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Lagos State University, as well as Master’s degrees in Public Administration and in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology. If confirmed by the Senate, Disu will become the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police/ireporters.
