Incident Report: Alleged Security Attack on Villages in Wudil, Kano

A serious incident has been reported in Katai and Fauda villages in Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State, involving local security operatives and villagers.

According to reports from the community, a local Fulani emir allegedly demanded land belonging to two indigenous Hausa families in the villages of Katai and Fauda. After the villagers reportedly refused to give up the land, security personnel were allegedly sent at night for unofficial operations to intimidate and frighten the villagers into leaving their homes.

During the night operation, the security men reportedly entered the villages and began shooting into the air and towards the community. Because the security personnel were not in uniform, the villagers believed they were under attack by bandits. In response, local residents armed themselves with traditional weapons to defend their community.

During the confrontation, one of the armed men shot a villager. The villagers then managed to overpower and arrest one of the attackers and, believing he was a bandit, they killed him.

The following morning, authorities reportedly informed the villagers that the person killed was a security officer. After this, security forces were allegedly ordered to enter the villages. Reports claim that security personnel attacked the villages, killed several residents, and burned many houses.

The situation is reportedly very tense, and many villagers have fled their homes.
