Two sophisticated surveillance aircraft procured by the Oyo State Government have arrived in Nigeria and are currently being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who confirmed the development, described the arrival of the aircraft as a significant milestone in the state’s determined war against terror, banditry, and kidnapping, particularly incidents targeting schoolchildren and teachers.

The Diamond DA 42 MNG ISR surveillance planes, acquired at a cost of approximately ₦7.7 billion, are equipped with advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.

They are designed to provide real-time aerial monitoring, high- and low-altitude target identification, and critical intelligence support to ground security forces.

Speaking on the development, Governor Makinde expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting that the aircraft will soon be fully operational and deployed to strengthen security architecture across the state.

“We are leaving no stone unturned in our commitment to secure every part of Oyo State. These surveillance aircraft represent a game-changing addition to our security arsenal. They will help us tackle kidnapping, banditry, illegal mining, and other criminal activities head-on,” the Governor said.

The aircraft are expected to work in synergy with Operation Amotekun, the Oyo State Security Network Agency, forest rangers, and other conventional security agencies.

Their deployment is anticipated to enhance rapid response capabilities, especially in remote and forested areas prone to attacks.

The arrival comes amid renewed concerns over the safety of students and teachers following recent abduction incidents in parts of the state and neighbouring regions.

Security analysts believe the introduction of these aerial assets will significantly improve situational awareness and intelligence gathering in the ongoing battle against terror.
