Show of strength:Gunmen attack immigration office in Ogbomosho, cart away firearms

Gunmen on Tuesday night reportedly launched a coordinated attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, making away with firearms belonging to officers who were on duty at the time of the incident.

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred at about 10pm at the immigration office situated along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Motorway, close to the NNPC filling station.According to Vanguard, the armed assailants stormed the facility at a time when commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, a busy commercial hub in the area.

During the operation, officers stationed at the immigration office were reportedly overpowered by the invading gunmen.

The attackers subsequently dispossessed the officers of their firearms before fleeing the scene.

However, the exact number of weapons taken could not be immediately confirmed at the time of filing this report.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities were yet to confirm the full details of the incident or provide clarity on the scale of the attack, including whether any injuries or casualties were recorded during the invasion.

When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that he had not yet received an official briefing on the incident.

“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” the police spokesman stated.

As of press time, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor other security agencies had issued an official statement regarding the invasion, the number of firearms allegedly taken, or the identity of the attackers.
