OYO STATE POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS TWO SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF 250 LIVE CARTRIDGES
The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition and enhance public safety across the State.
Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance operations, operatives of the Command arrested two suspects, namely Ganiyu Sodiq (35) and Salaudeen Sheriff (23), both residents of Komu on 10/06/2026, in connection with the unlawful possession of ammunition.
The suspects were apprehended at Budo Pako, Oke-Oyan, where a total of two hundred and fifty (250) live cartridges were recovered from their possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects could not provide any lawful explanation or satisfactory account regarding their possession of the recovered ammunition. Further investigative findings indicate that the suspects are believed to be involved in the illicit trafficking and supply of ammunition to criminal elements operating within and beyond the State. Ongoing intelligence-led investigations are focused on dismantling the wider network, identifying possible collaborators, and determining the source and intended destination of the recovered cartridges.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Upon the conclusion of investigations, they will be charged to court accordingly.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, psc, mnips, reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, which remain key enablers of violent crimes. He assures residents that all lawful measures are being deployed to ensure that individuals involved in criminal activities are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice.
The Command encourages members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and actionable information to the Police, as community support remains vital to the collective fight against crime and criminality.
