“IT’S A STUPID LAW. NIGERIA WILL NEVER BE AN ISLAMIC NATION.” — BISHOP DAVID IBIYEOMIE SPEAKS ON REPORTED RESTRICTIONS ON PREACHING IN BUSES
Bishop David Ibiyeomie has reacted strongly to reports of a proposed restriction on preaching inside commercial buses, describing the move as “a stupid law” and insisting that Christians should enjoy the same freedom to publicly practice their faith as members of other religions.
Speaking during a church service, the Salvation Ministries founder urged those responsible for the policy to reconsider it, arguing that Christians should not be prevented from preaching the Gospel in public while other religious groups are allowed to publicly express their faith.
“We want peace. Allow Christians alone. As we allow Muslims, also allow Christians,” he said.
The bishop questioned why Christians would be stopped from preaching if other religious expressions in public spaces are permitted. He maintained that the issue is about equal treatment and freedom of religion.
Bishop Ibiyeomie also expressed concern that such policies could amount to the humiliation of Christianity in Nigeria, stressing that he would continue to speak against any attempt to suppress the preaching of the Gospel.
“I will never be alive to see Christianity being humiliated in Nigeria,” he declared.
He further encouraged Christian leaders to speak up on matters affecting the faith, saying he would not remain silent regardless of public opinion.
During the message, Bishop Ibiyeomie also commented on the country’s security and economic challenges, calling on leaders to address issues affecting Nigerians while protecting citizens’ constitutional right to freely practice their religion.
He concluded by reiterating his belief that Nigeria should remain a nation where every citizen is free to practice and publicly express their faith, adding:
“Nigeria will never be an Islamic nation.”
