Was Reno Omokri truly rejected as ambassador ?/Ekene Arinze

Reno Omokri was asked on 15th June 2026, while on Channels Television’s Politics Today, why he hadn’t resumed his ambassadorial role even after 179 days since the Senate confirmed his nomination.

Guess what he said?

He said the delay was due to Mexico’s preoccupation with co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which had temporarily slowed down diplomatic processes.

And you will ask: can co-hosting a World Cup really stop a sovereign nation from accepting a diplomat or processing an ambassadorial appointment?

Well, It’s important to note that during the same period Reno claimed Mexico was busy preparing the logistics for the World Cup, President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico still received Letters of Credence from five newly deployed foreign ambassadors from Cuba, Egypt, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and Portugal.

So, I ask again: why has Reno not resumed his duty?

Was he rejected, or what?

Even the World Cup that Reno gave as his grand excuse is now over.

So, what exactly is still keeping him away from his duty post?

I am Ekene Aninze, Esq.
