Suspected Boko Haram terrorists reportedly disguised as residents to pass the night in Geidam Yobe State, in the course of which they burnt houses and public properties.
The terrorists struck in the local government yesterday evening, but were reported repelled shortly afterwards by troops of the Nigerian Army and Air Force.
However, our reporter learnt from sources in the town this morning that terrorists sold a dummy to troops by disguising as residents, misleading them to think that they have fled.
According a resident who spoke to our repoter on a condition of anonymity, the terrorists are still in the town Saturday morning, trying to cause havoc in the community.
He said the terrorists disguised and use the opportunity to burn down a fire service vehicle and a telecommunications mast overnight.
‘When the Nigerian Air Force jet came, the terrorists tactically withdrew but sneaked into the community. They later gathered the residents and then they start preaching to them. They also started looting foodstuffs in the market and destroying properties,’ the source said, adding that the Air Force jet returned in this morning.
Geidam is one of Yobe LGAs which continues to experience Boko Haram’s attacks.
Our source said the terrorists usually reach the town through Layi – Kareto – Tamsu Kori – Talau Kawuwa – Futchimiram – Fukurti – Dajina – Subdu Degeltura – Danga Bari, Tumbalji – Daro, from Lake Chad.
