Police have invaded the house of the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.
This is even as the Department of State Service (DSS) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) surrounded the residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.
Recall that the Police had Monday evening invited Saraki to appear before it by 8am on Tuesday to answer to allegations against him in connection to the Offa robbery which claimed the lives of more than 20 persons.
But early this morning, men of the Nigeria Police Force invaded his house to prevent him from appearing before the police to answer the invitation.
Saraki, in his reaction to the invitation, had said that he was aware that there is plan to prevent him from attending to plenary on Tuesday and Wednesday to prevent mass defection from the National Assembly.
He said: “I have been reliably informed that the police invitation was planned by IG as a ploy to stop an alleged plan by some Senators and House of Representatives members from defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was also said that if I was detained between Tuesday and Wednesday, that will abort the so-called defection plan.”
.
Confirming this development, the Special Adviser on Media to Ekweremadu, Uche Anichukwu said, “I can tell you this is true. The house of the DSP is presently surrounded by DSS, and EFCC operatives.”
Rabiu Kwankwaso, senator representing Kano central, and Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye and Kwankwaso were among the 15 senators who announced their defection on Tuesday.
The notice of defection was contained in a letter read by Senate President Bukola Saraki on the floor of the upper legislative chamber. Via cable

I condemn in it entirety the siege on the houses of the Principal officers of the National Assembly by officers and men of the Nigerian Police. The National Assembly as an arm of the government must be accorded the due respect that it deserves. This is tyranny! pic.twitter.com/d2YihsEuaP

Presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar has faulted the laying of siege on Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
This was contained in a press statement by his Segun Showunmi, Spokesman Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation.
It read: “We are outraged at the information reaching us which suggests that our democracy is under unprecedented attack. Separation of powers and an independent Legislator is the hallmark of a stable democracy.
“We call on President Buhari to call take charge and call security operatives to order. The world is watching and we so are Nigerians.”
