Two suspected robbers, who allegedly specialise in stealing motorcycles, have been apprehended by men of the Niger State Police Command.
The suspects, Yahaya Isah and Salihu Mohammed, both 20, from Chikangi and Emidochi villages in the Edati Local Government Area of the state, were arrested by a team of policemen attached to the Enagi Division while on a patrol.
It was learnt that the suspects were caught with two motorcycles earlier stolen from Lagos State and the Dokoza junction in Bida, Niger State.
Northern City News gathered on Sunday that the suspected motorcycle thieves were making life unbearable for the people of Chikangi and Emidochi communities.
Mohammed, in an interview with Northern City News, confessed that he and his accomplice had engaged in the act for over two years.
He said, “We were forced to start stealing and dispossessing people of their motorcycles and other valuables because of poverty in the state. At times, we use cutlasses to scare people to surrender their motorcycles to us.
“We sell the motorcycles at giveaway prices in order to raise money to eat; things are tough this time around.”
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhmmad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspects admitted to have stolen motorcycles from different locations.
