The group led by its national chairman Comr. Hart Emmanuel and its Public Relations officer, Arc. Chima Nwodinma Noble stressed the need for adequate security on the Bonny water ways which they accused the security agencies of diverting the gun boats bought by the Rivers state Government and the former CTC chairman of Bonny local government area, Hon. Dr. Simon Hart meant to secure lives and properties into a private business which has led to increase in crime and piracy on the famous bonny sea.
In the same vein Se-Alabo Abel Attoni also noted the rise in pirate activities on the water ways accusing the Navy and marine police of using the boats to escort multinationals, he stressed that the kingdom is a major contributor to the growth of the Nigerian economy and that the water way is the only gate way to Bonny Island so, adequate surveillance is needed to curb the excesses of sea pirates to forestall the security of lives and properties.
The Navy in their part admitted that the Rivers State government provided 8 gun boats but instructed that the gun boats be used in Rivers state and not Bonny in specific two of these boats was assigned to Bonny and Four are packed at the Naval base in Port Harcourt because, it has not been fully equipped and that one of the reasons why the command have not been fully in patrol is that they want to conserve fuel
The house committee Chairman, Hon. Uzoma Abonta on his verdict instructed the security agents to include all the logistics in their budget which will be approved by the house, and that they the navy should not conserve fuel at the expense of the lives and properties of the people that the said fuel is gotten from that part of the country ; so, it should also be used to secure the people.
He further instructed them to work in synergy with leaders of the area in order to gather intelligence.
Recall, that on the 6th of Nov. The member representing Bonny/Degema federal constituency in the national Assembly Hon. (Amaopusenibo) Randolph Iwo Oruene Brown, presented this petition on the floor of the house stressing the need for adequate security in the water water ways.
