The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said it had arrested the four policemen who fired a bullet which hit a security expert, Tunde Adeparusi.
PUNCH Metro had reported that one of the bullets fired by the policemen strayed on Friday, hitting Adeparusi, leaving him injured.
Adeparusi was on his way to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Friday when the bullet pierced his car and hit him.
The cops were reportedly chasing some suspects around the airport tollgate and one of the policemen was said to have resorted to shooting when they were challenged for breaking the barrier at the tollgate.
The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, ordered the arrest of the four policemen.
According to Oti, the CP ordered the command’s X-Squad Unit to fish out the policemen involved.
He added that the investigation led to the arrest of the policemen – Inspector Christian Offor, Inspector Kingsley Umeji, Sergeant David Eguavoen and Sergeant Paul Ebo.
He further added that the policemen who were under investigation would be given an orderly room trial if found guilty.
He said, “The CP said belligerent policemen and their likes that have refused to key into the professional ethos of the force have no room in this era of democratic policing.
“The CP enjoins policemen to be professional in the discharge of their duties.”
