The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has arraigned a businessman, Cajethan Muonagolu, for allegedly dealing in substandard engine oil.
Muonagolu, alongside his company, Richbon Nigeria Ltd, was arraigned before Justice Saliu Saidu at the Federal High Court in Lagos on four counts.
The prosecution said he dealt in 15,000 cartons of Prime Plasma, Prime ATF and Stanley brands of engine oil, which SON said were substandard products.
According to the prosecution, the products did not have the requisite SON Conformity Assessment Programe.
The prosecuting counsel for SON, Adeleke Olofindare, told the court that Muonagolu and his company committed the offence on December 12, 2018 at ASPAMDA Trade Fair Complex, Lagos Badagry Expressway.
He said they were liable to punishment under Section 26 of the SON Act, 2015.
But the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Justice Saidu adjourned the case till Thursday (today).
