UPDATE ON THE KILLING OF THREE OGONIS BY SARS OFFICERS
As promised yesterday, I did follow up on the issue where three youngsters were murdered in cold blood by men of SARS in Luebe Community in Khana LGA of Rivers state.
I did call the caretaker committee chairman of Khana, Hon.Gbene Lekue and was able to speak with two members of the community including a chief in the community. My Facebook message and call to Mr Akin Farakode, head of SARS, all went unanswered.
The testimonies have it that on the 10th of November, 2017, a team of SARS officers led by one sergeant Rufus were escorting a truck of illegal petroleum product to Ukwa East in Abia state through a track road in Luebe community in the night. A team of vigilante in the village had mounted a roadblock on the same road that night.
On getting to the roadblock, the SARS men attempted to remove the blocks and were questioned by members of the vigilantes who are also members of Luebe community commisioned by the villagers to keep watch over their community against criminal elements at night. On sighting the boys, the SARS officers allegedly fired straight at them killing three instantly and injuring four. They then drove off immediately after the gruesome killings.
Those who survived the encounter narrated that they were attacked by men of SARS, a position the leader os SARS initially denied.
The good news is that the commissioner of police Rivers state stepped in and SARS paraded all the men on duty that night and the three members of the crude murdering squad have been arrested and are now in custody at the state CID as I write.
The next phase is to ensure that we follow up this case until justice takes its full course.
We all know the Nigerian system, those in authority only act when there is public interest in a case.
The moral burden is now on us to get this news out as much as we can to help keep those responsible for ensuring that justice in done in check.
Attached are pictures and a video of the scene of the crime.
Some are too graphic to post here.
